I've always been inspired by the beauty of our visual world and my formal training has been in fashion and textile design. To me, the colors and motion of a peloton speeding past in a bicycle race are every bit as beautiful as a rose garden, the setting sun reflecting off the buildings of New York City, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, or the color palette chosen for a clothing collection. It's my goal to capture that beauty and reinterpret it in a somewhat surreal way that causes viewers to enter a silent conversation with me and all others who gaze upon it - we connect through the ether and infuse the piece with ever increasing power, fragility, and beauty.
I find my voice through the extension and cooperation of tools, whether they be acrylic paint, crayons, ink, pencils, canvases, textured papers, or in digital tools such as Processing, Photoshop, Illustrator, and the iPhone camera. For the generative and digital art pieces, lines of code and pixels dance to a universal beat that is felt more than heard. The work itself instructs me on the next moves and I listen, feel, and create within this partnership. Balance and tension tell me stories and ask for my consideration.
My work is ever evolving - one piece informs the next, with my current focus on paint, canvases, and paper and how I can stop thinking and just be free to make marks, lines, and fields of color. Pieces I've sold at shows in the past involved the blending of photography with generative art. As I pull from my photos, building layer upon layer of depth, saturation, and hue, I coax a new world from these visions of form and material solidity. Switching to the formless world of code, I then tweak my virtual paintbrushes to create swirling, often ghost-like backdrops on which to lay the photography. Through this process, I challenge assumptions - both mine, and the viewer's. Through this process, I begin a new conversation.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
